The “EGG” Dish

This classic egg, ham and cheese strata is fondly known as The “Egg” Dish in our family. This crowd pleaser and holiday brunch tradition is ideal for special occasions as it is assembled the night before.

Ingredients

slices of bread, cubed
4 cup / 450 g
ham, cubed
4 cup / 450 g
shredded cheddar
1 1/2 cup / 375 ml
cubed Swiss cheese

Naturegg Omega 3 eggs
3 cup / 750 ml
milk
1 tsp / 5 ml
onion salt
1/2 tsp / 2 ml
dry mustard
3 cup / 750 ml
corn flake crumbs
1/2 cup / 125 ml
melted butter

Directions

  1. Cut the slices of bread into ½ to ¾ inch cubes. Leave the crusts off to achieve the best presentation.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together: Naturegg Omega 3 eggs, milk, onion salt, dry mustard.

  3. Reserve 1/3 of the bread. Layer the remaining bread, ham and both cheeses in a 9 x 13 deep casserole dish.

  4. Add the remaining bread to the top and pour the egg and milk mixture slowly and evenly over casserole.

  5. Cover with tin foil & refrigerate overnight.

  6. Melt the butter in the microwave and mix in the cornflake crumbs. Arrange the mixture on top of the strata.

  7. Bake immediately at 350°F (190°C) – covered for 45 minutes; uncovered for the last 1/2 hour.

  8. Important: let sit for 10 minutes before serving
